Costumes & Treats

Let's just start at the beginning.

On Friday I met up with the Hubs for lunch at a new place...Punch Burger.

I got the Mushroom Patty with lettuce, tomatoes, onion and guacamole with a side of sweet potato tots.  It's was REALLY good. :)

For dinner we went to Yats where I got my favorite... B&B (black beans and caramelized corn in a light cream sauce)

For dessert we headed to Orange Leaf where I got Pecan, Pumpkin and Coconut flavors.  It was good but I've gotten used to the creaminess of YoguLatte and Urban Swirl.  I mean, I'll never turn down yogurt... it's just not the best. :)

After eating we saw the movie Cloud Atlas.

I wasn't that into it.  First of all, it's LONG and I'm not very good at sitting still.  Then it's a time jumping movie so you have to keep track of several story lines.  And then on top of all that, it's basically a long "Be nice to each other" PSA.  It was fun ID'ing the different actors in their different makeup, but if I hadn't been trapped in a theater I would not have sat through the whole thing.  Someone smarter than me would probably LOVE the movie. :)

On Saturday Kai's Nana & Papa took her to see Cinderella. She put on her Aurora costume and headed off with them.  She loved the show and got a juice box and rice crispy treat snack, plus after the show she got to meet the characters and got their autographs (ie, Prince Charming & Cinderella, etc.)

When she got back we started getting ready for my Sister-in-law's halloween party.

The Hub's went as a monster faced guy (ie he wore his normal clothes and a mask, lol!)

Kai found a play knife and decided she wanted to be a pirate.  We already had an eye patch so an over sized button up shirt, a brown vest, boots, leggings, a skirt, a scarf around her hair and one around her waist and she was set!

My original plan was to be a skeleton but it turns out that bleach on black makes orange, not white.  AND bleach on non-cotton fabric makes...nothing.  The skeleton costume was a complete dud.  So instead I took an old white sheet and sewed, what was essentially, a HUGE pillow case.  I cut a vertical  slit for my head at the top and two slits for my arms and then muddied the dress up outside.  With some zombie-like make up and unbrushed hair I quickly became the girl from The Ring...

At the party we met up with my Sister-in-law and her Hubs (their boys were Batman & Robin!)

And the Hub's parents, aka, the Doctors.

Plus a couple of dozen other kids and their parents. :)

On Sunday we did some much needed grocery shopping where I got some little oranges.  With a sharpie you have instant healthy Halloween treats!

And then after an over-time win by the Colts we headed out to ZooBoo at the Indy Zoo.

I donned a Mad-Hatter's hat and although my coat took away some of the madness I did get a couple compliments. :)

These tombstones had me cracking up.  My favorite was "I told you I was Sick". lol!

The boys were less enthusiastic about costuming-up again so they went as Colt's Fans...

Kai was Aurora riding a unicorn (yes, we have a LOT of dress up clothes at home)

There was trick-or-treating (although let's be honest, it was just treating!)

My favorite "exhibit" was the recycled tin man (this year's theme was Wizard of Oz)

And it was so cool out that the animals were super active.  This lion was just staring everyone down!

Of course we had to "race a cheetah".

For dinner I had an acorn squash...

cut in half:

Seeds removed and saved for cooking later:

Acorn halves were put in a microwave safe dish:

and nuked for 15 minutes.

I ate 1 half filled with Quinoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and a drizzle of honey. :)

Now, I still plan to share the lunch wrap up at the end of the week, but since Halloween is THIS week I thought I'd share the more "Themed" aspects as they happen. :)

Lunch was a Cream Cheese & Apple Butter sandwich, cut into a ghost with raisins for eyes & a mouth. :)

With a side of Cauliflower Ghosts (just stick some raisin eyes/mouth on using cream cheese as 'glue') and a side of Orange "jack-o-lantern".
