BOO! Halloween Bread Sticks

How creepy is that picture?  I recently discovered that my camera actually has different camera settings (I've only had it a couple years!) so Kai and I had a little fun with it. Seemed appropriate for Halloween!  :)

Anyway, I forgot to share with you Kai's Kiwi Monster she took to lunch yesterday.  It's just a peeled Kiwi with a raisin face and a banana cap. :)

As for today, I spent last night prepping some of our treats...

HALLOWEEN BREAD STICKS

1. Witch Fingers:

To make Bread Stick Witch Fingers I just used some DIY Bread Dough and some Spinach. :)

Start by chop/pureeing your spinach (A handful will do ya!)

Then pull out a handful of your dough and kneed them together.

So that you get a nice witchy green dough. :)
if you're able to blend the spinach in when making the dough it will blend better but I make a batch of dough and pull off pieces during the week.  Green bread doesn't go over well with the Hubs. :(

Then roll them into little finger logs...

And bake on a stone at 500 for about 10 minutes - just until they're cooked.

Put them on a rack to cool.

Use an Almond Slice to make a nail and you're done. :)

2. Bones

To make Bread Stick Bones all you need is DIY Dough and a bit of salt (I like chunky salt, like kosher, over the table stuff)

Roll bits of dough into long logs:

Cut a slit in each end:

Roll the 4 end pieces to make the bone nubs and then stretch them apart so that the bone itself is a little longer:

Sprinkle with some salt:

Again, bake at 500 for about 10 minutes.

Set on a rack to cool and you're done!

One of the best things about the Halloween Bread Sticks is that you can serve them with Blood, aka marinara sauce! :)

For dinner last night we had...

HALLOWEEN PIZZAS!

I followed my normal pizza dough recipe and then added toppings to make it a bit... spookier.

Kai:  FRIENDLY MONSTER FACE... assorted veggies & cheese with 2 slices of pepperoni for eyes, a mushroom nose and a sweet pepper smile.

The Hubs:  SCAREDY FACE... Pepperoni topped with cheese and 3 pepperonis to make the eyes & mouth, with mushrooms in the eyes.  (When the hub's first saw his "pepperoni pizza" he freaked out a bit thinking there were only 3 slices on it.  I assured him there were PLENTY more under the cheese)

Me:  BLOOD SHOT EYE... onion outer ring, spinach eye color, mushroom pupil and sweet pepper blood-shot-ness.

DESSERT:  It was originally going to be floating ghosts but the ricemallow wasn't being cooperative. lol!  Cocoa powder, PB2, Agave Nectar drizzle and ricemallow.

KAI'S LUNCH TODAY

I used some of the pizza dough to make Kai's lunch for today.  Since Calzones travel easier than pizza that's what she got.

Mushroom, Spinach, sweet pepper and cheese...

Folded over on itself.  Then I pressed in 2 mushrooms for eyes and red pepper for a mouth/teeth.

And baked it at 500 for about 10-15 minutes.

Her complete lunch will be the calzone (smooshed into her lunch container), a jack-o-lantern orange and a witch finger bread stick. :)

  1. Posting your bone breadstick idea came at just the right time for me because I already had breadstick dough rising and I was able to make "bones" out of them for dinner! :)
