A Scary Situation

Last night I was straight up scared!  Like shaking all over, call the police scared.

Someone came to our door a little after 10 and said his car had broke down and needed to use my phone.  Frodo was running around and barking like mad (yay) so I shut the door and grabbed my cell.  I still had the chain on the door and handed him my phone to use.  He said he didn't know how to use it so I took the chain off and opened it wider to dial for him.  When I did that a second guy popped up behind him and that guy had a gun.  He didn't point it at me or say anything threatening, and honestly I don't even know if it was real, but it Freaked. Me. Out.  I slammed the door shut, chained it and hit the alarm.  I was shaking like a leaf!!  Our alarm company called immediately (yay!) and the police came to check things out and make sure we were ok.  I couldn't describe the guys at all...not even what they were wearing!  And they may not have been intending to be scary...honestly they could have easily busted in the door as soon as I took the chain off, but seeing a gun, real or fake, scared the hell out of me.  Nothing even close to this has every happened here before!  I don't consider our neighborhood scary at all.

I'm still a little shaky about it and stranded drivers are now out of luck if they come to our house...I may put up a little sign saying we don't answer the door to strangers.  I know we all learn that in Kindergarten (or before) but it's hard to just ignore someone on your porch...well, I don't know if it will be so hard to ignore now. :)

After all that I sent a quick e-mail to our neighborhood group and a friend who lives on our street giving them a heads up to be wary.

Now let's focus on something MUCH less scary.  Yesterday's eats.  :)

You already saw our breakfast.

Here's what was left of lunch....

mostly eaten Tuna & avocado

partially consumed Strawberry & Banana Cat in the Hat Hat on a Stick (chop stick to be exact).

Sweet Potato Chips

40% off a Watermelon Bowl from Meijer
Then dinner was thanks to Olive Garden. :)

I had the Soup & Salad Combo, because that's what I always have.  Really I'd be happy with just the salad!  I LOVE their salad. :)

Minestrone Soup
Salad...Lots and lots of salad. :D
If it weren't for the fact that I had to take Kai to the bathroom TWICE I would have really enjoyed my meal.  I know it's the novelty of using public restrooms and she's always taking advantage of it so I shouldn't be surprised but last night it bugged me.  I just wanted to keep eating! lol!!

After dinner we did our grocery shopping so we're all stocked up again.  Yay!!

  1. I was so disturbed by the first part of this post (as well as a similar experience that my friend Holly had) that I'm applying for a handgun permit and taking shooting lessons.

    1. If that's what makes you feel safe then by all means do it. I think the best solution for me would have been to just not answer the door to a stranger. If I did have a gun in the house it wouldn't be loaded, and I would have had to think to have it on me when I answered the door. Plus I'm just not comfortable around guns. I know that I'm so completely screwed if we do ever have a zombie apocalypse...I'm loud, I can't run, I don't like processed foods, and I don't like guns - might as well just call me bait!! lol!

  3. That is sooooooooo upsetting! I found your blog off of MFP and have been drooling over some of these recipes and then I read this! Ahh! scary stuff. I'm like you, I don't like guns and I am extremely uncomfortable having them around me. We keep a bat behind the front door just in case. No chain or alarm company for me here, so let's hope this never happens. I am very wary answering the door in our neighbourhood.. now even more so!

    1. Ok, I'm curious...What's MFP? I've been trying to figure it out and am drawing a blank. :)

The Hubs also told me that if you are going to answer the door keep your foot braced on your side of it (like a door stop) to keep it from being knocked it. I hate that I now treat anyone coming to our house as if they can't be trusted...but in reality you don't know if they can be. :( Stay safe!!
