Celebrating Nana's Birthday

Saturday started out as it should.  I got up, ate breakfast, and started to get ready to go to Step Class.

And then I couldn't find my exercise shorts. :(  I know, I should probably have more than one pair but I only go once a week and not every week at that, so I don't have a need for a lot.  In the end I pulled out my pants, which aren't NEARLY as cute and headed off to my friend's house...to discover the road was closed!!

Did I miss the memo that yesterday was "Closed Road" day?  Everywhere I went roads were closed. :(

But, still not deterred, I chugged along the detour and made it to her house.  We packed the girls up and headed out.  We finally made it and I enjoyed a good workout.  A hard workout.  I'm not sure if the class was harder than usual or if I've missed too many classes lately but boy was I winded.  And then I was given 8lb weights instead of my usual 6lb.  I know what you're thinking.  2lbs - Big Deal.  Well, let me assure you that 2lbs make a big difference.  Fortunately today, I'm feeling ok.  I guess, MAYBE, I can handle moving up to 8lb weights. lol!

BREAKFAST
Breakfast was a bowl of oatmeal - surprise, surprise!

oats + frozen pear, strawberries, cinnamon, chia seeds, chopped dates, & raw sunflower seeds

LUNCH
After our work out we headed home.  The hub's was out on a mother-son birthday outing so lunch was just Kai and I.  It was almost noon when we got home so I wanted to whip up something quick....
Scrambled Eggs with California Veggie Mix + Chopped Tomato + Nutritional Yeast,
a nuked Sweet Potato + Cinnamon,
& Yogurt topped with Raisins and a drizzle of Agave Nectar.

Then the fun began.  Since we were going to see Nana after she and the Hub's saw their movie (Planet of the Apes - both gave it rave reviews) Kai and I decided to make her a Birthday Present!

Have you ever played with Shrinky Dinks?  They're so much fun!!

Kai colored & cut out some shapes.  (I used a hole punch so we could hang them)

Then we shrunk them.   It's so much fun to watch them curl and I always worry they'll stick to themselves...
But they always seem to flatten themselves out! :)

Out of the oven. - MUCH smaller and harder.
I like to put some curl and shape to them before they cool completely so that they don't lay perfectly flat.

And then Kai picked out some beads and helped me string them.
A big Blue circle, a small green butterfly (there was a lot of excitement with the butterfly bead discovery)
and a blue teardrop shaped bead.

And we happened to match Nana's outfit perfectly!

A Happy Nana is Rocking her new necklace!
And what do we see in Nana's hands?

That's right, we went to get Fro-Yo at Orange Leaf again - WAY better than cake.  I mean seriously - they have a cake flavored option so if you REALLY want cake you can get it, with sprinkles on top.

4 more bowls and I'll have a free one! :D

When we got there they didn't have White Chocolate as an option!  I was forced to try something else.  So I went with Cheese Cake & Coconut.  I LOVED the coconut!  Nana got the new coffee flavor which was so good but wouldn't have worked with the fruit toppings I love so much.

Kai made sure she didn't miss any of her Raspberry!

DINNER
We were once again running late yesterday evening.  Really Late.  So the Hub's stopped at the McD's drive through.  I gave Kai the option of yogurt or a happy meal.  She chose the yogurt, even knowing that she wouldn't get a toy!!  In the end the Hub's got a yogurt for Kai, a McNugget Happy Meal with Apples and some type of cheeseburger for himself.  Kai ate all of her yogurt, all the apples and 1 McNugget!  That's quite a bit for her.

When we got home I threw some onions into a pan and then added 1 zucchini, 1/2 a yellow squash, 1 green pepper (from the in-law's garden!) 2 tomatoes, 3 kale leaves, 1/4C black beans & 1/4C minute brown rice - I just can't stop added things when I cook.  Fortunately I was hungry.  I let that all just simmer while I cleaned up the kitchen and cut up the watermelon we bought. :)
No shame in eating out of a Serving Bowl!
And of course, after munching on the watermelon while cutting it, I went ahead and put some more in my bowl!
Summer, I'm going to miss you're little watermelon gifts so much!!

  2. I got it at either Michael's or Hobby Lobby, I can't remember which. But both places have on-line coupons for 40 or 50% off an item so be sure to download that before you go. I found it back between the scrapbooking supplies and the bead crafts.
